"CHANGE THE BATTLE SYSTEM ON ZONE 4 BOSSES"

Also, I suggest you change the battle system on Zone 4 bosses. It takes an ungodly long time to get anything done, and in general it's just irritating as hell. Or, if for some reason you want to keep it like that, cut the time by about 3/4 or something. Seriously. I cannot stress this point enough. Insanely long Z4 battle system + Omen not using Dark Omen very often = longest, most boring battle since I don't know when. I can't even complete it, I'm afraid I'll die of old age or something if I try.

Okay, now that that's over with... this is probably the best game on NG, as far as I'm concerned. I mean, it was absolutely awesome in virtually every conceivable way. It was beautifully drawn and animated, obviously well thought-out, incredibly addicting, and just generally a blast to play. SOTW was an excellent game, but you really outdid yourself this time. Aside from my previous criticism, you did just about everything right.

Please, please, PLEASE change the Z4 battle system, though. The timing is set up just perfectly so that it feels like it drags on forevert, but not so long that I can go grab a drink or browse other forums or whatever for a few minutes. The idea isn't bad, but I'm not sure the execution could've been any worse. Instead of a "cancel attack" center button, perhaps try a "end turn" button for when you've already got a choice locked in? Also, get rid of the way it charges on the boss's turn altogether. It's unnecessary.

Other than that, just a few of minor gripes.
1) Maybe shorter, more numerous zones? Zone 1 was understandably short. Zone 2 was a nice length. But by the end of Zone 3, I was getting awfully tired of that one plains backdrop and fighting essentially the same shamans overandoverandoverandover. Not a big deal, as it doesn't really affect the gameplay, but it'd be nice.
2) Maybe a little more selection in weapons? There are basically 4 weapons in the game: Swords, Maces/Staves, Guns, and those weird crescent axes. What about some glaives or something? Halberds? More conventional-looking axes? Maces that don't look like a lava lamp on a stick? Again, not a huge deal - and besides, the weapons that are there typically look nice enough to compensate - but maybe something to consider for Sonny 2.
3) Where'd the multiple-targeting attacks from SOTW go? I miss 'em. =S

tl;dr this game deserves a perfect score, maybe even 12/10 stars or whatever, as it's absolutely amazing and groundbreaking and just generally kickass, except you lose a few points because Zone 4 combat couldn't have been done any worse if you'd tried.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the input, I do plan to change the Zone 4 Battle system in the final update. Give us a week or so. The system was made for team PvP in mind, not really for single player boss fights... So plugging it in obviously left a few holes :P

1) Agree. I'll do that next time.
2) Good idea as well. More weapons, gotcha. (LavaLamp on a stick ROFL)
3) I tried to implement that but after some testing, I found out it will take longer than expected. Don't worry though, AoE will make a return.

Thanks! GL HF

Kingdom of Machines

"Fucking kickass, in a really mediocre kinda way."

date: November 21, 2007

The Good: Decent graphics, decent gameplay, decent style.

The Bad: You're some punkass kid that lives with his grandma and plays with stuffed animals killing identical robots with a 2-milimeter "sword" and a worthless gun.

The Lulzy: You play as Hitler with purple hair. I shit you not. Look at him head on; I fucking dare to tell me that's not Hitler with a bad dye job.

The Plot: You wake up from apparently the heaviest sleep in the history of the universe to find that you've slept straight through the total annihilation of your village. Good job, you little twat. So you 3-pixel sword and your Soaps (tell me he doesn't look like he's skating) and set off to kill some robots. There's good variety in the robots, although all the bosses look the same. That's, uh... pretty much it.

Anyway, it's overall not bad, but something about it makes it less enjoyable than one might expect.

"Fun, and quite difficult."

Overall good, although I'm something of a sucker for ragdoll games. My best score was 41 ships. Really, you should add some different weapons or powerups. Perhaps coins could fall from the sky, and at certain points (or on the pause menu) you could access a shop to buy new weapons, extra lives, or whatever.
